5 Days Uganda Gorillas & Wildlife Safari

A 5 Days Uganda Safari combining gorilla tracking with chimpanzee tracking and wildlife safaris in Uganda’s most popular national parks. This is one of the most popular Uganda Safaris taking you to Bwindi Impenetrable National park, home to almost half  of the remaining population of mountain gorillas. Within Bwindi, you will go for gorilla tracking in one of the four sectors of Bwindi Forest.

Later, travel to Queen Elizabeth National Park, a world biosphere reserve in Western Uganda. The park is home to four of the big five animals that are popularly sought-after from Africa. Go for game viewing in the savanna park including the search for the tree climbing lions of Ishasha.

The trip ends with a visit to Kibale Forest National park, the park with the highest density of primates. Track the fast moving chimpanzees in their natural environment within Kibale Forest, a highlight for most primate enthusiasts who travel to Uganda.

The trip will start and end in Kampala.

Trip Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
Very early in the morning at 6:30 am, our guide will pick you from your hotel and embark on the journey to Bwindi impenetrable National Park in south Western Uganda. Enroute, have a brief stop at the Equator for photography and at Mbarara Town for lunch. Continue with the journey to Bwindi which takes you through the beautiful scenic areas of Kabale, a region also known as the “Switzerland of Africa”! The journey is filled with great spectacles of the rural countryside that make Uganda, the Pearl of Africa. You will arrive in Ruhija in the evening. From the comfort of your lodge, relax as you prepare your mind for next day gorilla trekking in Bwindi. Dinner and overnight at Gorilla Mist Camp / Bakiga Lodge (Midrange) / Kiho Gorilla Safari Lodge (Luxury)

Day 2: Mountain Gorilla Tracking in Bwindi and Cultural Walk
Get up early enough for breakfast. The guide will transfer you to the Ruhija Outpost with your packed lunch. The day starts with a briefing session by the senior park rangers about the gorilla trekking etiquette to be followed during the trek. Led by the ranger guides, hike through the Bwindi Forest and track the endangered mountain gorillas. The walk takes you through the thick impenetrable forest. During the trek, be vigilant and listen to the vocal communications of the wildlife and follow the ranger’s guidelines. Upon meeting the mountain gorillas, you have up to one hour to observe and learn about the life of these great apes including their known habits. Feel free to take photos as long as you don’t use flash.

Bwindi Impenetrable Forest is a haven for both primatologists and ornithologists. During the walk, several birds and other wildlife can be spotted. After the trek, you will return to the lodge for lunch. If you still have some energy, you can go for a community tour to the Batwa, the indigenous tribe that used to live in Bwindi. Dinner and overnight at Gorilla Mist Camp / Bakiga Lodge (Midrange) / Kiho Gorilla Safari Lodge (Luxury)

Day 3: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth national park
After an early breakfast, drive to Queen Elizabeth NP via Ishasha – the southern sector of Queen Elizabeth national park in search of the rare tree-climbing lions whilst not avoiding sights of antelopes like kobs, gazelles, and bushbucks among others. Arrive for lunch at Mweya lodge and in the afternoon go for a 4 pm boat cruise along the Kazinga channel connecting lakes George and Edward which will reward you with close-range views of crocodiles, hippos, buffalos, elephants, and a variety of birds like pelicans, African skimmer, African fish eagle. You will then embark on an evening game drive on return from the boat in search of some game as a lion, leopard among others. Dinner and Overnight stay at Mweya Safari Lodge/Kyambura Game Lodge/Enganzi Lodge.

Day 4: Game Drive and transfer to Kibale Forest NP.
In the morning, you will go for a game drive to the Kasenyi Sector where you will be rewarded by animals like lions, bushbucks, possibly Leopard, among others.5 Days Wildlife & Gorilla. You will then proceed to Kibale Forest NP reaching early for Lunch. In the afternoon, you may proceed for a nature walk to the Bigodi wetland sanctuary. Dinner and Overnight at Kyaninga Lodge/Crater Safari Lodge/Primates Lodge/Chimpanzee Guest House.

Day 5: Chimpanzee tracking and transfer back to Kampala.
In the morning, gather at the park headquarters for briefing and then go for chimp tracking in the forest where you will encounter other primates. In return, you will set off to Kampala, reaching early in the evening.
