This 3 Days Rwanda gorilla trek takes you to Volcanoes National Park situated in Musanze district only 2 hours drive from Kigali city. The adventure involves trekking through local villages and the lush rain forests to meet the Gorillas.
You will track gorillas and golden monkeys in the Volcanoes National park, a home to mountain gorillas and golden monkeys. Volcanoes National park covers a size of 62 square miles and covers five of the eight virunga mountain ranges which includes Mt.Bisoke, Mt.Karisimbi, Mt.Sabinyo, Mt.Muhabura and Mt.Gahinga. There are over 200 gorillas in Volcanoes National park and 10 habituated gorilla families available for gorilla trekking.
This tour will start and end in Kigali.
Brief Itinerary
Day 1: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park.
Day 2: Gorilla tracking and cultural walk.
Day 3: Golden Monkey tracking and transfer back to Kigali.
End of tour.
Day 1: Transfer to Volcanoes National park
You will be picked by your tour guide from the airport on arrival or from your hotel in Kigali and be briefed about your tour expectations. You will then go for an optional city tour to visit the Gisozi genocide memorial, Nyamata church, local markets among other areas of interest. You will then set off a 2 hours scenic drive to Volcanoes National park in Ruhengeri with a spectacular view of the Virunga Mountain ranges enroute. Time allowing, you may visit Ellen DeGenere campus where you will learn more about Dian Fossey efforts in conserving the gorillas. You will then have an evening rest at the lodge as you get acclimatized to the cold temperatures and altitude in the volcanoes area. Dinner and overnight at Davinci Gorilla lodge/ Le Bambou Gorilla Lodge (deluxe)/Mountain Gorilla View Lodge (Luxury).
Day 2: Gorilla trekking and cultural walk.
You will wake up early at 6am for breakfast and then transfer to the park headquarters by 7:00 am to start the briefing about the dos and don’ts with the gorillas. You will then be allocated the gorilla tracking group and then the driver will drive you up to the starting point of the gorilla tracking group allocated and then ascend the forest for the memorable adventure.This experience will take 1-6 hours depending on the movement of the gorillas in their nature wild. Once you see the gorillas, a maximum of one hour is allowed to stay with them before descending back to the starting point. On the descent, will meet your driver/guide and drive back to your Lodge for refreshment. In the evening, you may go for a cultural walk to Iby’wachu where you will be entertained in Banyarwanda traditional songs and learn more about their culture. Dinner and overnight stay at Davinci Gorilla lodge/ Le Bambou Gorilla Lodge (deluxe)/Mountain Gorilla View Lodge (Luxury).
Day 3: Golden monkey tracking transfer back to Kigali.
In the morning after an early breakfast, you will gather at the park headquarters at 7am for briefing before going for golden monkey tracking at 8:30am. You will enjoy them play in the forest in search food. Golden monkeys are are rare monkey species endemic to virunga mountain ranges. On return, you will have lunch and set off back to Kigali reaching early in the evening for shopping if necessary and later transfer to the airport to check-in for your departure flight if on schedule.
