Walks not to miss in Uganda National parks.

Uganda has more 10 national parks and 13 wildlife reserves containing different species of flora and fauna. Few of the most famous of the parks are Bwindi impenetrable forest national park known for gorilla tracking, Queen elizabeth national park known for game drives and boat cruise safaris, Kibale forest home to chimpanzees and Murchison Falls national park. Apart from the above, there are other wildlife parks that offer a variety of animals to see and activities to do in Uganda. The Royal Mile walk in Budongo Forest, murchison Falls national park.

Royal Mile walk is found in Budongo forest, a habitat for chimpanzees, more than 200 species of birds and other primates.
The Royal Mile walk was Created by the 19th century King of Bunyoro kitara kingdom, Omukama Kabalega. He was one of the powerful traditional leaders, having fought British colonialists for five years in a rebellion Nyangire before he was exiled to seychelles. Hike for 1-3 hours on this walk through the primary forest, you can see a lot of plant species, trees, spot primates and birds. The local guide explains the history of Nyangire rebellion.

Walks in Murchison Falls National park

named after the world’s powerful waterfalls the Murchison waterfalls, Murchison Falls national park is the largest conservation area covering 3840 sq km. the most famous trail is the top of the falls hike, where visitors hike get on top of the cliff to view the waterfall created by River Nile as it squeezes through a narrow gorge to plunge off 45 meters cliff into the devil’s cauldron. Visitors can also walk along River Nile from Sambiya river lodge in the south or from Paara safari lodge north of the bank.

Game walks in Lake Mburo National Park
Lake Mburo national park is dominated by open acacia woodlands and includes Nakivale wetland system of 9 lakes. The park is notable as the only home to large population of impalas in Uganda. many more attractions include Burchell’s zebras, giraffes, buffaloes, topi, eland, bushbucks, bohor reedbuck, Oribi, duiker, klipspringer, sitatunga, warthogs, hippos, leopards and hyenas, beautiful 310 species of birds like African Finfoot, Abyssinian ground hornbill, saddle billed stork, reptiles like Nile Crocodile.
Visitors can explore the flora and fauna by game drives and boat cruise safari. But taking nature walks or hiking trails actually gets you close to animals.
Walks to the Salt rocks
this walk takes visitors accompanied by armed ranger to the salt rocks. a mixture of antelopes, zebras and warthogs can be found licking salt. it can be done early morning and lasts for about 2 hours.
The Rubanga Forest walks. If you want to spot birds in lake Mburo, this walk reward you many times over for exploring the forest on foot with sightings of species such as saddle billed stork, black bellied bustard, Abyssinian ground hornbill, African scops owl, hairy breasted barbet just to mention but a few. This walk goes through woodland forests where you can spot buffaloes, topi, warthogs and then ends up the historical hill called Kigarama where you have view of 9 lakes that make up the Nakivale wetland.

It is even easy to get to Lake Mburo from kampala, it is 2 hours drive approximately.
